October has been a busy month for Great Yarmouth & District Athletic Club with races available every weekend.

Several club members went to North Walsham for the Griffon 5k, on a lovely bright morning. The run was multi-terrain, around the park, along roads and across field paths. With a long downhill section coming within the first 1-2 miles, it was obvious to expect a hill later on, but the biggest surprise was to finish and find everyone had run further than the required 5k, hence the longer times. This was quite disappointing for runners hoping for a personal best.

That same weekend Pat Brightman ran in the Great East Run, a half marathon at Peterborough. Pat finished with a time of 2-49:41 in 2641st place, which was quicker than her previous half at Wissey in September. This was followed the next day with a walk at Ickworth in the company of Ian Botham.

Sunday saw a great turn out of nine runners for the Holt 7 organised by North Norfolk Beach Runners. Again the weather was bright, if not a little chilly to start.

Chris Gay had a fine run in 52:10 in 77th slot, with David Goodwin close behind, recording 53:56 in 92nd place. First lady to cross the line for the club was Sue Fraser who had a super run finishing in 157th place in 60:28.

Sue was followed by John England in 61:40 taking 167th slot. Dawn Clegg (203) and Sue Ryles (204) both had excellent runs just missing out on the 70 minutes by two seconds.

Next to finish was Maureen England who was happy with her time of 71:37s in 207th place. Elaine Haggerty and Denise Goodwin finished close together, with both ladies enjoying the run, Elaine recorded 76:33 and Denise 76:52. Their positions were 229 and 230 respectively.

Next race, Sunday - the East Coast 10k run at Great Yarmouth organised by Great Yarmouth Road Runners.
