East coast rivals Gorleston and Great Yarmouth are back on the FA Cup trail this afternoon – both with home games.

The Greens’ visitors are Barking while Yarmouth entertain Chesham United.

Barking visited Emerald Park last season in the FA Vase with Gorleston winning 2-0 but, since then, went on to win their league and gain promotion into the Bostik League North.

However, they haven’t had the best of starts, gaining just one point from their first four games and, after the Bank Holiday games, sit third from bottom of the table. Their cause hasn’t been helped by the departure this week of joint-boss Glen Golby, who stood down for family reasons, leaving Justin Gardner in sole charge of the team.

“I’d rather play a league match this weekend and get that first win on the board rather than the cup game, but it will be a good test,” said Gardner.

To reach the first qualifying round, Barking beat Saffron Walden 4-3 in a replay after drawing the first match 0-0.

At The Wellesley, managers Martyn Sinclair and Adam Mason will need to pick their side up after a disappointing 4-2 defeat at Thetford Town on Tuesday evening.

That result dropped the Bloaters to 15th in the table and they will be looking for a pick-me-up against Chesham – it may come in the shape of their special guests for the day, Care for Children, who are sponsoring the game.

Care for Children is a charity with a vision to see a million children moved from orphanages in Asia into local, loving families – their UK office has been based in Norwich since 2011, and the charity want to give something back to the local community, while raising awareness about the plight of orphaned and abandoned children in Asia.

“So that everybody can experience the magic of the FA Cup, this match will be particularly family-focused, with Care for Children arranging raffle prizes and attendance of a former Norwich City star. A group of local children will also get to attend the match and meet the players,” said Isabelle Francis, the organisation’s communications and events officer.
