Yarmouth Road Runners
The inaugural Kent Roadrunner Marathon took place at the beautiful new Cyclopark venue in north-west Kent on the Bank Holiday Monday of the Queen’s Jubilee weekend.
Great Yarmouth Road Runners Steve Etherington and Andy Peck took on the challenge. This multi-million pound venue has been constructed on a green-field site adjacent to the new A2 and Channel Tunnel rail link. Containing several different cycling arenas, the marathon makes use of the 2,493m smooth tarmac track. The track was primarily built for cycling races, with expected sweeping bends, and not so gentle slopes and absolutely no traffic.
The looped nature of the course made it an ideal location for spectators and for Denise Etherington to support and aid both Steve and Andy during the race.
Results: 41 Steve Etherington 3-20:46, 107 Andy Peck 107 4-01:04

Matthew Sutton ran his first ever fell race, five miles and 1000ft of ascent in the Peak District. Matthew really enjoyed it, going uphill was fine but downhill at full speed was terrifying, over rocks, ditches and loose gravel paths. Took 44:40.
In yet another good turnout from the Great Yarmouth Road Runners 12 members attended the Wymondham 10 mile road race. In weather which was good for watching, but possibly a bit too hot for running, two of the runners came away with awards.
The performance of the day came from Sean Jermy in winning his age group and on the way getting a personal best to boot. Another award winner was Steve Dady in his age category. Steve Etherington and Andy Peck also had good runs bearing in mind their marathon efforts on Bank Holiday Monday.
The competition within the actual race was between Neil Sibley, Steve Dady, Steve Leeves and Steve Etherington with only four minutes between them all. Karen Manning finished strongly to beat off the challenge from Michael Dale and Pauline Richardson was only 20 seconds away from a personal best at this distance. Ivan Lees carried on his good form with another strong showing while Sylvia Dady will be happy with her mornings work.
