Fours holders knocked out at Yarmouth

Today sees the final stages of the men’s fours and ladies’ singles at the Great Yarmouth Festival of Bowls.

The first semi-final of the Beach Terrace Café sponsored fours will be between the rink of K Whitehead, P Long, C Boon and T Dunton and K Hadleigh, D Macmillan, R French and S Carr.

In their first game the Dunton four beat N Lambert’s rink while in the next they played the four skipped by Wayne Willgress and in a close game in tricky conditions won 18-16.

The Carr rink beat last year’s winners J Colcombe, P Parsons, G Tubby and P Emmerson 24-20 and then edged past B Hubbard, A Goodson, J Hunter and K Breame in a close game 22-18.

In the other semi-final M Ellis, T Segolo, R Summers and B Perrett will play J Roope, M King, P Shackcloth and P Boldero. In their first game the former won 23-9 and they then played R Lewis, A Skinner, H Bell and J Button, running out winners 18-14. Boldero beat the rink skipped by D Adams 22-14 to play A Martell, D Kellow, B Cocksedge, K Rayner, winning comfortably 22-11.

In the Ladies event sponsored by Gt Yarmouth Tourist Authority the first semi-final will be between S Hardingham and J Watson. Hardingham beat L Tattershall 21-10 and C Wadlow 21-18. Watson beat A Chalk 21-18 and E Mackay 21-15 to reach the semi-final.

In the other semi-final S Davis will play P Rolph who beat J Kirby in her first game 21-20 to come up against last year’s winner K Clarke. Clarke held the advantage in the early stages, leading 20-12, but Rolph won 21-20.

In her first game Davis beat B Meeks 21-17 and then beat clubmate S Crysell 21-7.

Play starts at 9am with the final expected to start around 1pm.
