Freeze a jolly good fellow - Evans wins Parkrun

Gorleston Parkrun

On a perishingly cold day, 118 brave souls turned up for this week’s 5k parkrun against the wind. Not surprisingly there were only seven personal best times this week.

First home, for his sixth win, was Benjamin Harris of Retford AC in 18:00. He was followed by Marc Evans in 19:35 and Scott Chadwick of Coltishall Jaguars in 19:39.

In the ladies race Sylvia Wafula was a clear winner for the third time in 23:12 with Janina Domiczew second in 24:29 and Maria Ball third in 24:42. Maria now leads the ladies points table by a healthy 238.

On Sunday eight hardy Parkrunners joined the amazingly brave Cystic Fibrosis dipathon after an extra 5k run around the parkrun course.

It is interesting to observe people’s different footfalls. It is generally accepted that it is better posture, and causes fewer injuries, to push off from the front of each foot and some photos show this but others show that some land flat-footed or even on their heels.

The latter is encouraged by extra cushioning in many trainers. It is amazing though how many photos show that many runners spend a lot of time with both feet actually off the ground – thus reducing frictional slow down.
