Gorleston had to settle for a point at Swaffham on Saturday, never an easy place to obtain a result.

The Pedlars are a big side and they play to their strengths with a direct style of play.

Gorleston brought Kyle Howell back into the squad on the substitutes' bench. Adam Thurtle moved from midfield to right-back and new signing Paul Hunter came in to central midfield alongside the consistent Steve Taylor.

Harry Maddison also came into the team on the left side of midfield. Regan Harman who has been in fine form for the Reserves was also among the substitutes.

Gorleston took a while to settle and after 10 minutes conceded a goal.

The team reacted well and their attacking play was rewarded when Paul Hunter ran through and slotted home the equaliser.

Gorleston created more chances notably when centre-back Leon Harewood sent a header against the crossbar and Lee Hunter was foiled by the Swaffham keeper.

The Greens deservedly took the lead when the impressive Paul Hunter found Harry Maddison on the left, who ran through to beat the keeper with a well- placed shot.

Gorleston started the second half well and for a time were camped in the Swaffham box. Centre-back and captain Eddie Thompson headed against the bar and the Swaffham keeper made a great save from a Lee Hunter shot.

Despite this pressure Gorleston were unable to clinch the points and Swaffham equalised 10 minutes from the end.

Paul Hunter was outstanding in midfield alongside Steve Taylor.

Gorleston have games in hand over most of the teams directly above them and at this time only three points separate the six teams who are below third placed Halstead.

This group includes Yarmouth and Gorleston. There could well be many twists and turns before the promotion places are decided although the current top two of Newmarket and Hadleigh look strong favourites to claim the step up to the Ridgeons Premier Division. Obviously the third promotion place is up for grabs.

Team: T Marsden, A Thurtle, E Thompson, L Harewood, B Manning, R Butler, S Taylor, P Hunter, H Maddison, P Lambert, L Hunter. Subs: K Howell, J Bell, L Goreham, R Harman, T Daniels.

On Saturday Gorleston travel to play Stowmarket, ko 3pm. Gorleston Reserves have a home game against Stowmarket Reserves, ko 3pm.

Gorleston FC are holding a general knowledge quiz in the clubhouse on Friday, March 13, 7 for 7.30pm start.

Teams of up to four, £4 per head, Buffet included, cash prize. All welcome.
