Jacob’s double secures play-off success for Yarmouth youngsters

PUBLISHED: 12:06 28 April 2017

Great Yarmouth Town 1897 won the Norfolk & Suffolk Youth League’s Under 12 Division Two play-off match against Gorleston Rangers Falcons.

Two goals from Jacob secured Great Yarmouth the title in the first play-off of the season.

In the Under 16s Gorleston Rangers Falcons have secured the Division One title after goals from Liam and Ray produced a 2-1 win over the Hurricanes of Kirkley & Pakefield, who will now meet Bungay Town in a play-off for the runners-up position.

Waveney Cougars secured runners-up position in Under 16 Division Two after a 7-1 home win over Hemsby. Beccles Town Hornets are refusing to hand their Division One title over to Gorleston Hurricanes without a fight after cracking in 12 goals against their Wasps team, and Great Yarmouth ended Kirkley & Pakefield Royals’ title ambitions with goals from Jack, Connor and Billy securing a 5-2 away win.

Hemsby moved up to fifth position with goals from Tighe and Tommy in an away win at the Warriors of Kirkley & Pakefield, who had Danny and Jack on the scorecard.

There was only one match in Under 15 Division Two but those who attended enjoyed a goal feast as Stalham and Beccles Bees both had hat-trick heroes in George for Stalham and Harry for the Bees as the game ended 5-5.

The Wildcats of Kirkley & Pakefield maintained their six-point lead at the top of Under 14 Division One with a thumping 7-1 away win at Harleston and AC Mill Lane, thanks to goals from Thomas and two from Max, secured three points and fourth position in the table with a 3-1 away win at the Pirates of Kirkley & Pakefield.

This weekend the league hosts its mini soccer finals, eight finals in total as teams from Under-7s, Under-8s, Under-9s and Under-10s play in both the Trophy and Shield finals at Emerald Park. The action starts with the Under-7 Plate final at 10am.

Under 14 Division Three leaders Hemsby can only hope their six-point lead at the top is enough with the Cougars, who are six points behind, having two games in hand. Despite goals from Thomas and Jack for Great Yarmouth Town the Cougars still returned home with the points in a 4-2 win. The runners-up position in Under 12 Division FFour is still no nearer to being settled with AC Mill Lane and Hemsby still in the running.
