Local knowledge was put to good use as Terry Norman and Graham Carman came out on top in the February Open Pairs at Great Yarmouth and Caister.

The home combination won the better ball Stableford competition, which attracted 92 players, after notching up 44 points.

Second with 43 were Steven Large and Paul Dunning while five pairs were tied on 42, with another home pair, Mike Hall and Brian Johnson, taking third on countback.

Sam Forgan, professional at Stowmarket, fired a superb gross 66 to lead the professionals while home professional Alex Holmes carded a 71.

A superb fund-raising effort at the Links Country Park Club at West Runton over the course of 2017 culminated in £4,660 being handed over to the Benjamn Foundation.

Last year’s captains Simon Marr, Jane Gomm and Dave Parmenter handed over the cheque to the charity’s chief executive Tony Ing.

The amount was raised by golfing and non golfing events throughout the year. One of these saw Jane Gomm and Sarah Marr, Simon’s wife, sleeping out rough at the club on a cold night in November.

Each year the Benjamin Foundation provides 40,000 safe nights for young people and provides a home and support for 120 young adults.

Following his three years in office at Ryston Park Golf Club Joe Flogdell retired as club president at the annual meeting and John Rice took over the role for the next three years.

Boo Moore is the new ladies’ captain while Bert Emery, who joined the club as a junior and now plays off a two handicap, is the new club captain. Nigel Wagg will be vice captain for a year and will take over as club captain next February.

Ryston Park is starting a new junior section and the first set of lessons begin on Saturday, April 7. Contact coles.towers4@btinternet.com for more information

Dereham Golf Club’s junior members started the season with the Valentine Trophies up for grabs. Joe Crane took top prize with 42 points, followed by junior captain Maisie Farrelly on 39.

Immy Leeder took third place on countback with 38 points. Arthur Leeder won the five holes competition.
