Norfolk & Suffolk Youth League programme hit by weather

Winter finally arrived last weekend, with a combination of heavy rain and cold winds causing many Norfolk and Suffolk Youth League games to be either postponed or abandoned.

Freethorpe under-15s were facing opposition two divisions higher in Gorleston Rangers Hawks in the Under-15 Cup.

Despite the tough conditions the Gorleston forwards treated supporters to some wonderful finishing while the Freethorpe goalkeeper turned in a fine performance despite being beaten eight times.

Teams who kicked off early appeared to miss the worst of the weather and there were many younger players completing matches and goal scorers aplenty at under-8, with William and Zac on target for Acle and Daniel and Aaron for the 1897 Great Yarmouth team.

Henley, Lucas, Patryk and Justin netted for Shrublands while Jake, Coen, Joel, Frazer and Jude scored for the Royals and Knights of Kirkley and Pakefield. Waveney Tigers under-8s had Jenson and Reuben on target along with Bailey, John, Thomas, and Matthew for the Bees of Beccles Town and completing the goal scoring at under-8 level were Hartley, Henry, William and Chavdar for Loddon.

Moving up a year to under-9s and Joshua and Jacob did not let a little rain get in their way with goals for the Stalham Impact team while Michael at Shrublands and Lex at Bungay were also on target. Daniel scored for Great Yarmouth Town as did George for Burnt Hill Rockets and Marcus and Zac for the Panthers. Alex netted for Kirkley and Pakefield Conquerors along with Thomas, Oscar, Harry, Reuben and Zac for the Wasps of Beccles Town. Gorleston Rangers’ scorers were Kallum and Reece for the Kestrels and Benjamin, Romar and Joshua for the Hawks.

All the under-16 teams were involved in cup football. Sole Bay needed penalties to get past Waveney Panthers after the match ended 2-2. The Royals of Bungay Town proved too strong for the Barbarians of Kirkley and Pakefield with a 6-1 home win and Hemsby also drew first division opposition in the shape of the Hurricanes of Gorleston FC, current cup holders, who ran out comfortable winners. Beccles Town Wasps’ convincing home win moved them into the next round of the cup while Shrublands will also be awaiting the draw following their home win over the Tornados of Gorleston.
