RUNNERS are being given the chance to be a part of history and take part in the one-off Great Yarmouth marathon.
To mark the 25th year anniversary of the Great Yarmouth Road Runners, a Marathon will also take place alongside this year’s East Coast Run.
Organised in association with Great Yarmouth Borough Council, the 10km East Coast Run, and Marathon, will be held on Sunday, October 21.
Also supported by the Great Yarmouth Town Partnership, this will be the fifth year the Council and Road Runners have come together to stage the East Coast Run.
Setting off from near St George’s Park, the 10km route will head down Trafalgar Road and onto the seafront.
Heading along Marine Parade and then North Drive, the runners will turn around close to Haven Holiday Park before heading back along the same route, cutting down onto the Promenade near the Salisbury Road toilets and heading all the way along to near the Pleasure Beach.
The race will then cut back onto and along Marine Parade, back down Trafalgar Road and finish at St George’s Park.
The 26 mile-long Marathon will use the same route, with runners lapping it three times, with an additional loop around the South Quay and Hartman Road area included to lengthen the route. The Marathon will begin at 9am, and the 10km at 10.30am.
The 10km race will cost £10 for a registered member of an athletics club to take part, and non members £12.
The Marathon will cost £22 for a registered member of an athletics club to take part, with non members paying £24.
Each finisher will receive a medal and there are cash prizes on offer across varying age categories.
