Halvergate have won the Bure League title for the fifth time in six years after a tremendous performance saw them to a 10-0 victory at defending champions East Tuddenham.

The home side knew that to keep their remote chance of retaining the title alive they had to win their last two matches by maximum points and make up 117 shots on Halvergate, and that was never on the cards.

Ray Lamb, Robbie Lamb and Josh Baxter opened with a 17-9 win against Elaine Willies, Rob Howlett and Simon Willies while Donna Lamb, Jamie Forster and Jason Woods beat Albert Palgrave, Gerald Potter and Chris Mann 15-11. Keith Baker, Nigel Willard and Keith Cooke then produced the win of the night, racing to a fantastic 29-3 win against Gilly Amos, Robin Amos and Melvin Woods while Jackie Smith, Ryan Fox and David Lamb completed the rout with a 17-11 win against Chrissie Turner, John Turner and Gary Best.

Runaway City of Norwich League leaders Horsford BC have been confirmed as champions for the fourth time in five years after regaining the title won by Thorpe Marriott last season.

The 12-2 away win at Sprowston left Horsford BC an incredible 57 points clear of Horsford Heroes. Third-placed Deaf Sports completed a double against Windows, beating them 12-2 both home and away, but a 12-2 defeat at Thorpe Marriott will not help them in their efforts to overhaul Heroes.

Woodbastwick hosted the Challenge Cup final, which saw Bob Carter beat Wymondham and lift yet more silverware this season. Jack Pye of Wymondham gave his team a great start, beating Jason Woods 15-4, but that proved to be Wymondham’s only win of the night.

Carter’s Gary Best hit back, beating Chris Mann 12-8 in the other opening singles game. In the rinks session Carter collected two more wins as Nigel Willard, Steve Bridge, Rob Howlett and Jamie Forster beat Pat Saunders, Melvyn Barker, Debbie Sparham and Mark Linsdell 12-7 and Elaine Willies, John Turner, Simon Willies and Melvin Woods’ beat Roger Steele, Brian Saunders, John Jeffery and Jon Sparham by 8-5. This left Carter 8-2 up at the interval and the second session of singles games saw them clinch victory as Jason Woods beat Chris Mann 8-6 and Gary Best came from behind to beat Jack Pye 9-7.

The National Mixed Fours in Tamworth saw both Norfolk rinks eliminated in the first knock-out stage after they both won their groups.

Jon Sparham’s rink went down 9-1 against Michael Rice’s Suffolk rink while John Jarvis’s rink went down 14-3 to Herefordshire.

The NCSMBA Summer League AGM was held at Thorpe Marriott with member clubs learning of another drop in numbers for the coming season. With Deaf Sports, Horsford Heroes, Windows and Shropham not entering the league this summer, coupled by the demise of former Summer League giants Kirby Bedon, the total of competing clubs has fallen to just nine. The decision was made to still operate two divisions this season with five teams in Division One and just four in Division Two.

The Summer Cup matches will now be played over two legs instead of one because of the shrinking size of the league.
