Snow stops play at Gorleston Golf Club

Snow closed Gorleston Golf Course for one day and forced the cancellation of the Midweek Stableford.

On Sunday the Men’s Section played for the Todd and Turner Tankards, a fourball betterball stableford competition.

The winners with an outstanding 47 points were Andy Klein and Keith Newberry.

In second place were David Wooden and Mark Everard with 44 points on countback from Ray Pope and Stuart Pearce in third place.

On Wednesday the Ladies’ Section played a four ball better ball matchplay format which will be useful for some of next year’s county matches.

Thursday’s Midweek Stablelford was cancelled as the golf course was closed owing to snow which although amazingly picturesque made played impossible.

Local supporters were guaranteed a good afternoon yesterday, when two bowlers with Norfolk connections came face-to-face in the final of the Just World Indoor Mixed Pairs Matchplay championship at Potters.

There was more good news for Norfolk bowls fans, when, following the success of Wayne Willgress in the open singles, his fiancee Bex Field helped Arbroath’s Darren Burnett send the defending champions Claire Johnston and Nick Brett crashing out of the quarter-finals of the mixed pairs.

Great Yarmouth Town maintained their unbeaten streak after having to dig deep into the squad with only 12 first team regulars available.
