Winterton return to winning form

PUBLISHED: 16:59 29 June 2012

Winterton returned to winning ways with a comfortable six-wicket victory at home to Kirkley & Lowestoft Railway on Saturday.

On a damp wicket Winterton elected to bowl first but John Halstein (17) and Craig Guy (23) batted aggressively, particularly to anything short or wide.

The introduction of spin in the form of Danny Snowling soon changed the game around as he accounted for both openers in his spell of 4-33. Other than a late flurry of runs from young wicketkeeper Carl Rix (28), Winterton bowled with control to restrict the Suffolk side to 152-9 from their 46 overs.

With the bat, Winterton found runs hard to come by early on but batted patiently and made hay against the change bowlers. Bryn Clarke (19) and Fred Playford (31) opened up with a 50 partnership.

A brief panic followed as Winterton lost quick wickets to find themselves 97-4 but Martin Witheridge (36 no) and Danny Snowling (13no) shared a quick fire 56-run partnership to see them home in the 32nd over.

The win moves the Tonnies up to fourth in the Alliance Division Four table ahead at the halfway point of the season.
