Great Yarmouth Town saw off village side Yelverton with a much changed side to reach the quarter-finals of the Norfolk Senior Cup.

With several key players missing there was a debut for 17-year-old Ray Urry, playing his first game in adult football, while Kieran Hagan was rewarded with his first start after several promising displays as substitute.

The experienced visitors from Anglian Combination Division One contained four ex-Bloaters, Shaun Robert, Sam Giacomelli, Harry Maddison and Jimmy Cole.

The game kicked off with the visitors on the front foot but the young defence held firm before Mitch Forbes headed wide after good work by Chris Holmes as the Bloaters began to exert their authority.

The visitors then had a chance when Lee Green was found in space but the formidable frame of Jack Whatmough gave the striker little to aim at.

Much of the play was in the Yelverton half but their stubborn defence was proving difficult to break down and it took a piece of individual brilliance from Haydn Davis to break the deadlock. The midfielder picked the ball up in his own half and weaved his way through to the penalty area before calmly slotting his shot past Robert on 32 minutes.

A couple of minutes later Forbes hit the post from an acute angle after Aaron Sanders’ header was clawed away by Robert.

The visitors made a change at half-time which saw the return of Maddison to the Wellesley. Within six minutes of the half the Bloaters had doubled their lead when Mitch Forbes rose highest to head home from a Sanders’ corner.

Sanders had a couple of half chances as his free-kick sailed over the bar and then from a goalmouth scramble his shot was blocked on the line as the home side threatened to overrun the visitors.

The game was over as a contest when Davis made it three on 64 minutes, Hagan tormented the defence and found Forbes who played inside to Davis who dribbled past two defenders and found the bottom corner of the net for another fine goal.

Graphic Solutions Man of the Match: Kieran Hagan.

Bloaters: Whatmough, Palmer, Ford, Lewis, Urry , Forbes J (capt), Sanders, Davis, Forbes M, Holmes, Hagan. Subs: Howell, Bond, Savage, Doddington, McAra. Attendance: 92.
