Youth rugby festival proves a hit

Broadland – Great Yarmouth in partnership with Sports Tours hosted its biggest youth/mini rugby festival to date as 53 teams from around the country took part in two days of rugby at the club. Warm sunshine and blue skies set the scene for a fantastic weekend of rugby. The event consisted of competitions for U7 through to U14 teams across nine pitches at Cobholm playing fields.
Clubs visiting Broadland - Great Yarmouth for the weekend included clubs from as far afield as Lincoln, Whitstable, Hull , St Neots and Nottingham. joined by local teams, Wymondham, North Walsham, Norwich and Diss. As hosts, Broadland - Great Yarmouth RFC also fielded teams in the U7, U8 and U9 age groups.
In the oldest age group U14 Nottingham Corsairs walked away with the title, but in the youngest age group U7, Norfolk Side Wymondham took the Honours. Broadland – Great Yarmouth’s teams battled well but the U7, U8 and U9 did not make a top three finish
Broadland-Great Yarmouth RFC Youth Chairman Russ Clarke said that “This was another great event for the club, and a really big thank you to the small army of club members that made it happen. It was great to see young players from all over the country, enjoying rugby in Great Yarmouth.
Behind the scenes club volunteers kept the estimated 2000 attendees from each day fed and supplied. There was also other activities for young players to test their skills on.
Planning has already begun for 2014. The Festival was the last date in the youth calendar for the 2012/13 season. Youth and Mini Rugby returns to Great Yarmouth in September.

U13: Chesham third; Sevenoaks runners-up, Cranbrook winners.
U14: Diss third; Wymondham runners up; Nottingham Corsair winners.
