Free design workshops for teenagers are being staged in Great Yarmouth.

‘Make Yarmouth’ is aimed at 13-19 year olds who are looking for something creative, fun and inspiring to do.

It involves five projects introduced by a designer who will talk about their work and lead creative sessions.

Each project runs over four Saturdays, starting on the first Saturday of the month.

The first session on Saturday June 2 will be with Alex Murray-Leslie, an artist and musician who is a founder of the art band Chicks on Speed.

She will be doing a workshop turning clothes into musical instruments.

In the past she has made a high heel shoe guitar and is currently doing a PhD in wearable technology.

Future sessions include furniture design by Martino Gamper, architecture by Hana Loftus from HAT Projects, product design by Will Shannon (who worked with the architecture group Assemble when they won the Turner Prize in 2017) and Maki Suzuki from design group Abake.

Local arts organisations Original Projects and Creative Collisions have been awarded £19,000 from neaco (network for East Anglian collaborative outreach) to deliver Make Yarmouth, to encourage young people into higher education.

All sessions will take place at Original Projects space (formerly the Mercury office) in King Street, Great Yarmouth.

To book email Tricia Hall on tricia.hall@norfolk.gov.uk or call 01493 743949.
