Travelling on the top deck of the X1 towards Great Yarmouth behind a slow moving tractor and trailer recently I was amazed to see a gathering of 17 little egrets next to a shallow dyke near the rail line.

According to the RSPB based near Berney Arms on the Halvergate Marshes, the little egrets have been breeding successfully.

Ten years ago you would have seen just one or two on the journey to Yarmouth. I always say Breydon Water is a hidden treasure as it does not get the publicity of say Minsmere or Cley. Sadly the information sign at the entrance near the Breydon Bridge was damaged in a storm, derelict for years and has never been replaced.

However last year the arts festival started an event in the Minster, Breydon Crowther, the story of a wildfowler in 1890 who lived in a nearby cottage, plus an exhibition of photos. Can we have more please?
