Take a walk around North and South Quays, and the seafront south of the Pleasure Beach you will find as much desolation as there is around the town centre.

To my knowledge there is no forward thinking. And with the various councillors that have been elected since 1986, I believe there won’t be.

Forward thinking should have been used in 2006 by the councillors of all parties when they agreed to give away a £20m grant and all the Trust Port’s assets to a venture capital company that convinced councillors to drop the planned ferry service (a brochure even included the ferry sailing timings).

After 11 years the elected ones still have not reconciled the lack of footsteps in the town with the non appearance of the ferry. Up to 2006, all councillors through press articles, said the outer harbour with the ferry service would be the saviour of jobs and the tourist trade.

Why did they not do what they said? Voters are as much to blame; there has been many chances to change the council but lethargy rules, yes there are plenty of complainers but very few doers and even less voters.

I care about our borough but am too old to do more about it, we need chances for the borough to blossom not the individual.
