A Gorleston school is ramping up its efforts to create many more much-needed teachers across the region.

Ormiston Venture Academy on Oriel Avenue will open its new teacher training campus in September.

This comes as Ormiston Academies Trust announces its new Ormiston Teacher Training (OTT) programme in partnership with the National Institute of Teaching (NIoT).

Alongside gaining core subject and curriculum knowledge across two placements schools and support from NIoT fellows, trainees will work with personal mentors to develop their skills and confidence in the classroom.

The course will help up-and-coming educators to reach Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), receive a PGCE awarded by the University of Birmingham and the possibility of future employment at Ormiston.

Subjects include Biology, Chemistry, English, Modern Languages, Physics, Mathematics and Computing, among others, with the option to study full or part-time.

The scheme is an evolution of the Trust’s earlier regional teaching training programme, the OAKS, which will conclude later this year, having successfully supported more than 700 trainees into teaching positions and collaborated with almost 80 partner schools over the years.

"As a Trust, we have long been committed to developing and nurturing teaching talent and ensuring they have immediate access to local experts and training opportunities.

"We are really looking forward to welcoming prospective trainees, and partner schools, to the programme and seeing the positive impact that this will have for students and colleagues across our Trust and other schools. We would encourage those interested in applying to do so at the earliest opportunity."
