Parents of children who play football with a club on the coast have expressed concern about a proposed rise in membership fees.

Great Yarmouth Town FC is holding its AGM tonight (Monday, June 26) at Smudgers Bar clubhouse on Sandown Road, where the club will discuss raising fees.

When all fees are collected one age group will see an increase of approximately £2 per week and all of the others around £1 per week which will mean that all youth teams will be paying the same amount monthly across the board.

Kim Lofty, whose 11-year-old son Riley trains with the Bloaters, said: "It is very important for him to be playing football but it's just a lot of money to put into it."

She suggested the club introduce staggered fees instead, where younger members pay less than older players.

Hannah Borridge said that she might have to tell her son, Taylor Crane, 11, that she cannot afford to pay the extra fee, which would be "utterly heartbreaking".

Club president Jack Jay said the proposal is not set in stone and that people attending the meeting will be free to put forward suggestions.

He also said that over the last two years the youth teams were being subsidised and run at a loss.
