How very, very sad it is to see the condition that the lovely Ferryside building has got into. Unfortunately it is not a “listed” building, why I don’t know, but from 1992-2009 I was a home carer for Norfolk County Council social services department and usually all the high up’s and management were situated there.
There were lots of different rooms, it was very daunting if you got a call to go in and see a manager! We had our monthly meetings in which were known as the stables, and these meetings were very important, necessary and much needed to discuss and meet colleagues on how to cope with any problems in the service at the time. It was a lovely, friendly atmosphere and interesting and they were really good days.
Wendy Trower and Meryl Hall were two lovely helpful managers. I retired seven to eight years ago and every time I drive along High Road and past Ferryside I am filled with sadness looking towards it.
Back to the article in Friday’s Mercury: houses I don’t agree with, but more offices of some sort, maybe. There are good parking facilities. Please don’t change the look of it too much.
Many of the couples who were married there when it was the Register Office must be looking back in disbelief. A sign of the times I fear. As more buildings are demolished monthly, more and more plain houses are being erected. What an absolute shame.
