A little story: George Grice was born in 1892 at 150 Caister Road, Great Yarmouth and at the age of six managed to fall off the back of a coal cart. This left him with a withered left arm, such was the skill of medics in those days. This meant that by 1914, now aged 22, he was very much in line for the First World War - “Your Country Needs You” being the call of the time.

Anyone who did not respond was very likely to receive a wealth of white feathers, the mark of cowards. To show a willingness to participate my father joined the Great Yarmouth Volunteer Training Corps and received a little oval lapel badge (pictured) to refute the white feather brigade. I remember seeing just once a photo of a meeting of that organisation and the membership seemed to be dependant on owning a bicycle. Otherwise I have no idea of the objects of the Corps and would be glad of any information accessible about it.
