With reference to having our say on the town centre cinema plan; as well as having the Hollywood on the seafront, many people used the former Regent, later Mecca Bingo on Regent Road.

In 2011 I was one of a group of people taken on a guided tour of the building during the Heritage Open Days.

People not familiar were amazed at the interior. There was still an iron range in the basement used as the kitchen when it first opened.

The Regent was a theatre and a cinema from 1914 to 1982 and on the first night 1,679 people attended. It is a Grade II Listed building, built in the French Renaissance style.

The auditorium is decorated in a Louis XV1 style with a restaurant on the first floor.

It has been painted inside and out in recent years and a conservation officer has said it could be reverted back to a cinema.
