I totally agree with correspondent Sam Pinder re the Empire, last week’s Mercury. It is very sad especially as my late father used to be manager there showing silent films and then on to the talkies.
This is a picture of it in its heyday, showing how he used to advertise a film, in this case The Four Feathers. Personally, I would love to see it restored in some way and used as a museum of the cinema, especially as there is no real facility for this in the town.
Cinema City in Norwich is doing this and has the photographs in my possession.
