YOUNGSTERS have chosen the symbol of a tree for their new school logo, with the words “Growing to Succeed.”

The whole school turned out to celebrate last week when Herman Primary School in Gorleston was officially opened.

Chairman of the governors, Mrs Louise Penn, spoke to visitors and pupils, and shared her excitement and optimism for the future of the new school, which has come about following the amalgamation of Herman First and Middle schools from September.

The guest speaker and a former “old boy”, Radio Norfolk's Stephen Bumfrey, led a special assembly.

He spoke about the progress and developments he had seen in the school, which he also mentioned in his broadcast on Radio Norfolk.

Pupils took part in the assembly, talking about the part they had played in creating their new school, with a new School Council, Lunchtime Buddies and Play Leaders.

The pupils also had a say in the design and colour of their new uniform.

Headteacher Mrs Kathryn Rutherford said she was proud of everything that had been achieved and was looking forward to an exciting future.

Each class was presented with a cake bearing the school logo, to mark the occasion.

An open afternoon was held for parents and friends who were able to see a variety of activities happening around the school, including cookery demonstrations, in the brand new food technology room.
