An update on “lowest ever” infection rates and clinical presentations from two consultants will be reported to the annual general meeting of the James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on Monday.

Adrian Pennington, chief executive, said: “Anyone interested in their local hospitals is invited to come along to the Celebration Suite at the Burrage Centre.

“There have been huge changes over the last 10 years in the length of time patients have had to wait. Ten years ago you could wait over 12 hours in A&E. Today 98pc of patients are seen within four hours. Waiting times will continue to fall with the 18 week wait one of the key NHS targets that every Trust must deliver for all patients by December 2008.

“The target includes all stages of the patient journey from initial GP (or other clinician) referral to treatment through a range of diagnostic procedures and outpatient appointments to reach a diagnosis and a decision to treat.

“Cleanliness is a top priority and our achievements were recognised last year when we secured a national award for the best cleaned hospital by an in house team. We have seen dramatic falls in MRSA bacteraemia rates over recent months and this has resulted from a zero tolerance approach combined with the acclaimed Think Pink campaign to raise awareness.

“Rates of Cdiff have also fallen dramatically with the hospital and community recording just three cases in June this year - our lowest ever in one month.”

John Hemming, chairman, said: “We would encourage our members in particular to come along to hear how their local hospitals are performing. We are proud of our services and the progress that our Governor's Council is making. We hope everyone who attends will find these interesting and leave having learnt more about both of these services and how vital they are for the patients that are seen here.”

The full annual report and accounts and a short summary are available on the website at www.jpaget.nhs.uk. Anyone who would like to attend should contact Ann Filby foundation secretary via 01493 452162 or ann.filby@jpaget.nhs.uk. Light refreshments will be provided.

The meeting is between 7pm and 8.30pm.
