Safety schemes on two village roads have been given the green light after a parish council was given a cash boost.
Belton with Browston parish council submitted two bids to the county council’s parish partnership programme and they have received nearly £4,000 match-funding.
The village was successful in both bids and will now the county will pay half the cost of the schemes.
The two projects are for a £4,107 new trod running parallel with New Road near the foot bridge and a set of 20mph Wig Wags – flashing signs warning of a 20mph school zone – outside Moorlands Church of England Primary Academy, costing £3,548.
John Rudrum, chairman of Belton with Browston parish council, said: “It is brilliant news. To get one would have been great but to get both is fantastic.
“One of my things is the school crossing, and I am absolutely over the moon about the funding for the safety measures.
“The new trod will also be handy for the shops.”
Across Norfolk, communities are to benefit from more than £750,000 of improvements to make roads safer and 122 projects have been given the go-ahead.
Parish and town councils will match £380,000 which Norfolk County Council will provide through its parish partnership programme.
Toby Coke, chairman of the council’s environment, development and transport committee, said: “This is the fifth year running that we are offering this help through the popular Parish Partnership scheme.
“With a great range of schemes bid for this year I’m pleased we can help out so many parish and town councils with improvements that tackle local priorities.”
