STAFF from a healthy eating project gave up their holiday time to deliver some festive cheer to vulnerable, elderly and isolated residents.
Rachel Rundle and Kenny Hean, from the Great Yarmouth Mobile Food Store, dropped off boxes of fresh fruit and veg to the Marina Centre today (Monday) in preparation for the annual Open Christmas event, which invites residents who would otherwise be alone on December 25 to enjoy a traditional festive feast among company.
Guests at the free event will also enjoy live music and entertainment tomorrow when the seafront leisure centre is transformed into a huge communal dining room.
The produce that Rachel and Kenny delivered was sponsored and provided by D&F McCarthey Ltd fruit and vegetable wholesalers of Norwich, who work in partnership with the food store scheme that aims to get people across Yarmouth and Waveney eating more fresh fruit and veg.
Rachel said: “We are very happy to give some of our free time to help those in the community.”
Volunteers from Open Christmas are this year inviting more people to pull up a chair at the communal dining table, especially those who have not attended the event before. For more details call 01493 733153.
