A kitten was hurled from the window of a moving car in a Norfolk town.

Vets were appalled when Winston was brought in for treatment after being found in Norwich Road, Watton.

The extraordinary cruelty was witnessed by a member of the public as the car drove through a residential part of the town early on Wednesday afternoon last week.

The cat, thought to be between six and eight weeks old, was taken to the Old Golfhouse veterinary surgery in Watton, where staff were relieved to see he had only suffered minor injuries.

Despite his ordeal, the kitten was back on his feet and eating again the following day.

Practice manager Helen Manning said Winston had been extremely lucky not to have come to more harm and condemned the actions of whoever was responsible.

“We were told the driver wound down the window and threw something out,” she said. “The person who saw it stopped and found this kitten.

“Luckily his injuries were minimal, but he came in with a bleeding nose and we had to give him some pain relief. There are no obvious broken bones, but he is still a bit snotty and gurgly.

“I am so angry and absolutely sick to the stomach that somebody could do that to a creature. In this profession we see some horrible things, but to be callous enough to throw a cat out of a window is unbelievable.”

Winston has been placed in the care of Cats Protection's adoption centre in Longham, near Dereham, in the hope that a more compassionate owner could be found for him.

Anyone with information about the driver who threw Winston from the car should contact the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.
