A police investigation has been launched after a pony was believed to have been mauled by two Staffordshire bull terrriers and had to be put down.
The attack is believed to have happened at a field in Three Score, Bowthorpe, at around midday on Sunday, August 8.
It is believed the two dogs attacked the Shetland pony's face and the injuries sustained were so bad that the horse had to be put to sleep.
It is not known who the pony belonged to but it is believed the owner is a young girl.
It is thought a man was walking the two dogs at the time, when the attack happened.
A police spokesman said: “Officers from Norfolk Police were called to an area in Bowthorpe at about 1pm following reports of a horse being attacked by two dogs.
“Police attended the scene and sadly the horse had to be put down as a result of injuries sustained in the incident. The owner of the dogs involved also contacted police about the incident and the matter was fully investigated.
“No formal complaint has been made to police and the matter will be resolved between those involved.”
