ARREST warrants have been issued for a gang of professional shoplifters who were due to be sentenced today after they targeted stores in Great Yarmouth.

The two Romanian couples pleaded guilty to shoplifting at a hearing last Friday at Yarmouth Magistrates Court and were bailed to appear today for sentencing.

Leonard Tanase, 22, and his wife Vandana Mihai, 24, both of Hunter Road, Ilford, Essex, along with Vestinian Vaduva, 30, and his wife Mioara Mihai, of Loxsford Avenue, London, failed to appear at court this morning and no bail warrants have now been issued.

As the couples stood in the dock with their babies last Friday the court heard how they had stolen more than 300 worth of goods from TK Maxx and Next.

On December 9 last year the four defendants were spotted acting suspiciously at the town's Gapton Hall Retail Park.

The women, who were wearing long skirts, were followed by a store detective who described them as “ballooning out” appearing to have something underneath.

The gang were arrested and officers found five pairs of shoes from TK Maxx worth 190.95 along with two brown sweatshirts, a pair of brown cord trousers and a brown striped scarf from Next worth 120.36.

The no bail warrants mean police can arrest and detain any of the gang until they appear in court.
