A tight east coast derby was decided in extra time as Great Yarmouth were denied a place in the Norfolk Senior Cup quarter finals by Gorleston.

Yarmouth fought back from a two-goal deficit at half-time to force extra time but the tie was decided in the second half of extra time.

As with any derby match the game started with a fast pace and the home side thought they had taken the lead after five minutes. Harvey-Cooper's low shot was parried to Forbes but his tap-in was ruled out for offside.

Gorleston had another chance six minutes later when McKenna flicked Howell's cross goalwards but Greygoose turned it away for a corner which was cleared.

Yarmouth striker Woodcock - in a cameo appearance - thought he had scored twice in two minutes midway through the first half. Woodcock picked up Baldock's ball over the top of the defence and chipped the goalkeeper, only for the ball to be cleared off the line by a backtracking defender. A minute later Mills sent Woodcock away who slotted the ball under the goalkeeper, but was marginally offside.

But the early pressure told for the home side when they took the lead just before the half hour mark. McKenna was tripped in the area, Harvey-Cooper blasting the resulting penalty away.

Gorleston doubled their advantage seven minutes later. McKenna's shot was parried to Taylor who slotted the ball into the bottom corner from six yards out.

Yarmouth hit back after the break when a shot rebounded to Baldock whose shot flew into the top corner from 30 yards.

Less than a minute later Yarmouth thought they had equalised when Vide tricked past two defenders, but was unlucky to see his curled shot rebound off the inside of the post and cleared.

The away side were dominant while looking for the vital second goal, being first to the ball and able to keep possession comfortably. Vide, Woodock and Mills were continually involved in creating opportunities, most notably when Mills struck a free-kick that rattled the crossbar. Moments later Mills fired a volley from 30 yards against the bottom of the post.

And the second half performance was rewarded when in the last minute of five minutes of stoppage time substitute Allen capitalised on a slip by the Gorleston goalkeeper by rolling the ball into the back of the net, sending the game into extra time.

Both defences held strong in the first period of extra time, with the most notable chance after ten minutes when claims for a penalty fell on deaf ears, Harvey-Cooper claiming to be pushed in the back whilst heading a cross.

But the damage was done three minutes into the second period of extra time with McKenna heading in a cross from the left, and two minutes later McKenna found Finch via Howell who slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
