Roadworks that looked set to disrupt traffic in Great Yarmouth have been scaled back after safety fears were raised.
Major works on the traffic lights, warning lights and controllers at Haven Bridge were due to start on Monday but have now been put back, with the most disruptive element postponed until October.
Instead, limited works on the junction with Hall Quay will be carried out during off-peak hours using lane closures to control traffic.
Norfolk County Council has apologised for the late change.
It said the decision to postpone a major element of the work, which would have required a right-turn ban for traffic crossing Haven Bridge from Southtown and Gorleston, was taken after concerns about pedestrians safety were raised. The authority said it became clear that more traffic control measures, including temporary traffic lights, would be needed.
The work, deemed the most disruptive element, has therefore been put back for five months.
