Mental health charity celebrates its 40th birthday with set of events

Established in 1978 by Rev Roy Coppack with just £50, Mind has since supported many people in the Great Yarmouth and Waveney area who have suffered from some sort of mental health problem.

There is a wide variety of events that have been organised, including a beach party in Lowestoft and a high-profile charity ball at Ivy House Country Hotel.

Mind will be attending community events such as the Great Yarmouth Air Show where they will have their own gazebo and activities to raise awareness and fundraise for their cause.

They will be organising bake sales, bag packing, an indoor bowls competition and much more.

Fundraising and communications manager of Great Yarmouth and Waveney branch of Mind, Rachel Walsh, said: “We are a passionate team of people who want everyone with a mental health problem to get the help they need and respect they deserve.

“We are proud to have been supporting people across Great Yarmouth and Waveney for the past four decades and want to share this exciting milestone with the communities we support.”

The charity is also on the search for more volunteers this year to help them with their work as they continue to expand, not just in the Great Yarmouth and Waveney area but all over Norfolk and Suffolk as well.

The charity provides a range of information and services to help local people who suffer from mental distress to live full and independent lives.

They provide one to one support, social groups and workshops for young people (aged 14-25), adults and carers.

They also run a residential housing service that enables residents to live as independently as possible in a supportive and homely environment as well as providing education and promotion to individuals, schools, colleges and businesses.
