The organiser of a series of music nights at a popular venue in Gorleston fears he may have to cancel them as people are not going out as much anymore.

Howard Marshall says the live music nights he organises at the Ocean Room may have to cease due to the low numbers of people attending.

Mr Marshall has organised the latest of his The Room events for Saturday, February 4.

The music event has been running 15 years.

He has warned that due to the current downturn in support for music events and gigs it could be the last The Room night, which are held about three times a year at the seafront venue.

Before Covid, between 450 and 600 people would attend the nights, but last year only between 250 and 275 people went to the shows which were inspired by The Later with Jools Holland BBC programme.

Mr Marshall said: "Since Covid has finished it has been a real struggle to get people to come to them.

"We have not changed the quality or the format or anything.

"It is just becoming a non-viable position.

"I say to people- 'Use it or lose it'.

"I don't necessarily think it is the financial situation at the moment, although that will have some bearing on it, because it is not an expensive night.

"I think it is ever since Covid people have got apathetic about going out or are weary of going out.

"People have got used to staying in and people have got used to being comfy at home."

The Room event on Saturday, February 4 features resident band H-Gang and The Hard Working Blues Band, Swamptruck, Robin Evens and local band Jehenna.

Its first complete show since the Covid crisis began was in September 2021.

In February 2020 it created a stir when Brit Award winner Rag 'n' Bone Man, a regular on the Jools' BBC show, made an unannounced appearance.

Tickets range from £8 to £13. For information on tickets and the event, visit the website www.the-room.biz.

Doors open at 7.02pm, the show starts at 8.02pm prompt.
