Hundreds of people gathered to pay their respects at a war memorial in Great Yarmouth for Remembrance Sunday.

Soldiers and cadets paraded through the town centre as they made their way to the World War One memorial in St George's Park.

Great Yarmouth borough mayor Graham Plant, the deputy lieutenant and the high steward joined the generations of people gathered in the park for the service.

Conducting the service, Revd Canon Simon Ward said: "We remember with thanksgiving and sorrow.

"Those whose lives, in world wars and conflicts past and present, have been given and taken away."

Heads bowed for the playing of The Last Post.

The sun broke through the clouds, shining over those present.

Following the two-minute silence, wreaths were laid. Representatives from the Army, Royal Air Force and Navy gently placed the tokens, taking a moment to salute.

Members from the Police, Norfolk Fire and Rescue and the Ambulance Service, as well as others, joined in the laying of the wreaths.

Revd Ward reiterated the significance of the past 100 years of remembrance ceremonies held at St George's Park.

"Today we can think of 100 Remembrance Sundays," he said.

"And I wonder who will be here in 100 years.

"Will the poppy and the memorial still speak to them then?"

The service concluded with the National Anthem.

"I'm very pleased to see the youngsters here," he said.

"There's a strong sense of tradition in Great Yarmouth, and it's good to see it continuing.

"I found it interesting when the Reverend said how he wonders how it would be in 100 years' time.

"To me, the town has always supported the troops and everyone who serves. I hope it continues."
