A trapped seal has been rescued from a Norfolk beach in a two-hour operation after getting trapped between rocks.

The very plump weaned pup weighing about 45 kilos had got himself jammed between rocks at Hemsby near the village's lifeboat station on Friday.

The Friends of Horsey Seals took two hours to rescue the trapped mammal.

A statement on the group's Facebook page said: "Our team had to dig a lot of sand out to create a hole big enough to get a net around him.

"The whole thing took them two hours and was very challenging as they were working on very slippery rocks.

"The seal repaid them by biting one of the rescuers in the boot! No harm done and the seal is free again."

On Thursday the group's volunteers took an underweight weaned pup found near Waxham church to the East Winch RSPCA centre.
