Audiences at a festive show in Great Yarmouth have been thrilled by the appearance of a world record breaking mountain biker.

The Hippodrome's Christmas Spectacular Circus and Water show is up and running, with a cast of more than 60 performers including international circus stars, swimmers, dancers, and Norfolk comedy and Britain's Got Talent star Ben Langley.

There is also a special guest appearance from six times and current British trails mountain bike champion and eight times Guinness world record breaker Andrei Burton.

The legendary British mountain bike star is appearing for the first time at The Hippodrome, which sits 750 people.

Great Yarmouth Mercury:

He has been jumping mere inches from the audience and then right to the top of raised hippodrome stages.

Mr Burton said: "Its amazing to be so close to the audience and hear their gasps.

"For the last few years I've been touring with Top Gear Live in arenas around the globe to audiences of 10,000 upwards.

"But this is so fun."

He joins a cast including acrobats from Cuba, Italy, Spain and Mexico.

It has also been the first time in two years that local young dance students have been able to perform at the venue, which is run by the Jay family.

Jack Jay said: "Its wonderful to have students from our in-house dance school Dance Estelle back in the show.

"They really make our Christmas show particularly magical."

The Christmas Spectacular is on now until January 8.

Tickets are selling fast, so audiences are encouraged to book in advance.

Prices are from £14 to £40. Tickets can be bought on the Hippodrome Circus website or by calling 01493 738877.

More than 40,000 people have watched last year's Christmas Spectacular since a free recorded version went live on YouTube on New Year's Eve in 2021.

The Jays decided to provide the stream after the success of the filmed Christmas Spectacular in 2020, which has been viewed by more than 200,000 people.

In 2020, the New Year's Eve performance, along with 30 others, had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

According to a post on the Hippodrome's Facebook page, there are no plans to stream this year's show.
