An emergency road closure has been put in place on a village bridge after a hole "the size of a size 10 boot" appeared.
The hole was first noticed by a member of the public on Thursday (December 22) on the old bridge by the Norada pub and restaurant in Potter Heigham.
Paul Rice, senior flood warden and emergency coordinator for Potter Heigham, came to investigate and alerted the local authorities.
He said: "The hole is big enough to put a size 10 boot down it. It's significant enough for someone to fall in.
"It's about a foot deep."
Engineers were called out on Thursday night and on Friday morning (December 23) the decision was made to close the bridge entirely.
A Norfolk County Council spokesperson said: "We were made aware of an issue at the old bridge in Potter Heigham.
"We have closed the bridge and put a diversion in place while we assess the situation and investigate repairs."
The closure, to traffic and pedestrians, is expected to remain in place until January 12.
