Four people were arrested in Great Yarmouth during the celebrations on New Year's Eve.

The arrests were confirmed by Norfolk Police.

A statement said: "Officers made 10 arrests in Norwich for offences including assault, drunk and disorderly, while six people were arrested in King’s Lynn and four in Great Yarmouth for similar offences."

Superintendent Terry Lordan from Norfolk Constabulary said his team had "planned for months" to keep people safe.

He said: "Large numbers of people were out in Norfolk for the New Year’s Eve celebrations.

"It’s traditionally one of our busiest nights of the year and the policing operation is planned months in advance to make sure there are sufficient resources in place to keep people safe.

"Overall, the majority of people were in good spirits and brought in 2023 safely.

"We’d like to thank everyone for their support during the night and wish you all a happy and safe 2023."

It came after warnings from the superintendent and a nursing chief about being careful if enjoying the celebrations.

Tricia D’Orsi, director of nursing for NHS Norfolk and Waveney said the NHS needs the public's help "now more than ever".

The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed a second critical incident status at the end of last month amid a high volume of 999 calls and hospital handover delays.
