The new beach huts being built on Great Yarmouth promenade are expected to be completed by early May, it has been confirmed.

Groundworks contractors are currently setting up the site inside the North Drive car park to begin the construction of 43 beach huts which will be available to buy or rent.

The £450,000 scheme was announced last March following the success of the now-70 beach huts that were constructed along Gorleston's lower prom.

The Great Yarmouth site - opposite the Imperial Hotel - will see 43 cabins located alongside the promenade without obstructing the current stretch of pavement.

Work will also see the conversion of the amenity facilities at the North Drive Pavilion, which will be for the use of beach hut owners and occupiers only.

The development is expected to be finished by early May.

A Great Yarmouth Borough Council spokesperson said: "The town’s seafront and beach is an enormous asset and this work will enhance our offering for tourists and residents and continues the council’s efforts to make Great Yarmouth an attractive and vibrant destination."
