More details have emerged of the frantic efforts to save the life of a man stabbed to death in a street near Great Yarmouth's seafront.

The 23-year-old was attacked by another man in broad daylight on Wednesday afternoon on St Peter's Road, just back from the town's Golden Mile and close to the Hippodrome venue.

The victim staggered to nearby Wellington Road where he collapsed and was helped by members of the public until the emergency services arrived.

Daryl Setchell, the landlord of the Alexandra pub, on Wellington Road saw the commotion as the emergency services took over from the public assisting the dying man.

“I was just leaving my pub to go somewhere when suddenly a load of police and ambulance people were rushing to the scene," Mr Setchell said.

"I wandered over to see what was going on when I saw a huge trail of blood from St Peter's Road down to the road works.

"It was so brutal seeing him on the floor, something I won't forget anytime soon.

“It is shocking that in the world we live in someone can be stabbed in the middle of the street in the middle of the day.

“I am a father and I am concerned with the world they are going to grow up in."

Sharlene Brooks, who exactly lives opposite where the man died, is raising a young family there with her youngest just four months old.

“It is just so awful," Ms Brooks said.

“The blood was all across the road at the bottom of my driveway, I am raising a family. It’s so terrible.

"If I didn’t want to move before, I certainly do now.

"I have an 18-year-old who works late. When she comes back I was worried then, and to think a murder happened in broad daylight just makes me want out.

“The crime around here is endless. There is drug use, drug deals, vandalism, fights, there’s always something going on."
