The woman killed and disposed of in the most shocking way was a "very charitable woman" who was said by friends and neighbours to have a "heart of gold".
Winifred Patricia Holland, who was known as Pat to her friends, was killed by Allan Scott, 42, who was convicted of her murder on Friday (March 24) following a trial.
She had lost sons Nigel, in 2016, and Paul, in December 2019, and had been closely involved with people who were "down on their luck".
Visited regularly by her daughter Kathryn, Mrs Holland attended church groups in Gorleston where she was a popular member of the community who was "always happy".
Mrs Holland, who had become unstable on her feet and used a walking frame, took pity on Scott after seeing him on the streets in Gorleston.
Tragically the compassion she showed in Scott was not reciprocated by the defendant, who had mental health and alcohol problems, making her life increasingly difficult after he had moved in.
He had refused to leave despite her wanting him to, in a stand-off which took a tragic and shocking turn.
