A village vets that has outgrown its premises is preparing to open a second, bigger branch.

Caister Vets, on Ormesby Road, is opening a sister site at the former Beck motorhomes building on Martham Road in Rollesby on Monday, April 24.

The practice, part of the Westover independent group, opened in 2017 with a single vet and now has more than ten practitioners.

Zak Leavold, branch director at Caister Vets, said that over the past five years the practice has continually grown its team of vets, nurses and receptionists to try and keep up with demand

"But by last summer we realised that it was no longer our staff numbers that were holding us back," he said.

"Clients were telling us that they were struggling to get appointments as easily as before, particularly in the busy summer months when dog-owning holidaymakers flood into the area.

"This wasn’t because we didn’t have the staff – it was because we didn’t have enough rooms in the building to fit the work into," he said.

The new practice will boast seven consulting rooms, two theatres, separate cat and dog wards and waiting room areas, as well as a separate and dedicated pharmacy.

"We are extremely excited because this site will allow us to really improve our availability to our clients," Mr Zeavold said.

The practice, which has recruited more vets, nurses and receptionists, will now be able to open its books up to new clients from locations such as Acle and Brundall.

The Caister Vets branch will remain open for limited work, mainly routine consultations such as vaccines and basic treatments or for clients who struggle to get to Rollesby.

The name for the new site is 'Caister Vets – Rollesby'.

There will be an open day for existing and prospective clients on Sunday, May 14.
