Mugs have been removed from a roundabout on the A47 for the second time in less than three years.

The cups had appeared on the traffic circle close to the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston.

But Highways England, which manages the road, has taken the crockery away.

A spokesperson said: "Placing the tea cups or mugs on a busy roundabout is extremely dangerous, not just for the perpetrator but also for the drivers using the roundabout and our on-road teams who have to remove them."

A similar incident happened in July 2020 when tea cups and a large crockery pot mysteriously turned up on the roundabout.

After the latest round in this 'war on mugs', some residents have complained that instead of taking away the mugs Highways should remove the weeds.

On social media one woman said: "Pathetic, it always makes me smile when I see them.

"With everything going on in the world [they] just bring some joy."

Another person said: "Long live the mug roundabout! In mugs we trust. It's the Norfolk way."
