The building of a new housing estate of 665 homes by Caister is hoped to start in 2024.

Aerial photographer Mike Page has caught the early stages of the start of pre-development on the land beside Jack Chase Way at West Caister.

Developers Persimmon Homes said overall planning permission had been passed in May, following the success of its controversial bid last year.

A spokesperson for Persimmon Homes said: "We're pleased to have received outline planning permission for our community of up to 665 homes in Caister.

"We will now be working to submit our reserved matter application by the end of July, with the goal of starting work on site in 2024."

The bid for the housing estate, which was approved last July by Great Yarmouth Borough Council's development control committee, had been criticised by residents

Some 45 concerned residents attended the borough council planning committee meeting, while hundreds more watched live on YouTube.

People critical of the bid said a pedestrian overpass or underpass, linking the new development with the rest of the village, was needed to prevent deaths or serious accidents on the A149.
