An investigation is under way to find the cause of a sinking road after part of it collapsed.

The incident happened at the junction with Drudge Road and Upper Cliff Road in Gorleston yesterday (June 5).

A hole about a foot wide appeared, prompting an emergency repair.

It has since been filled in but Norfolk County Council has confirmed it is to investigate the cause of the subsidence which has caused the section of the road to dip.

A Norfolk County Council spokesman said: "Our Highways Team received a report of an issue on Drudge Road overnight, and our out of hours team provided a temporary repair to the site.

"We’re currently investigating the causes and will be working with partners to ensure a full repair is carried out promptly."

A number of sinkholes have appeared in recent months, including one that was three metres deep in Baker Street in April, prompting an investigation by Anglian Water. 

It is currently unknown when the investigations into the cause of subsidence at Drudge Road and Upper Cliff Road will begin.
