Great Yarmouth's next Labour parliamentary candidate for Great Yarmouth could be Suffolk-born Keir Cozens.

Applications have opened for Labour parliamentary candidates in several parts of the UK.

On Thursday, Mr Cozens, 33, announced via Twitter his application to stand as Great Yarmouth's candidate for Labour in the next general election.

"This is about getting out of the blocks first," he said.

"I work for the Labour Party and I am not shying away from that. Sometimes people during these contests claim to be the most local person in the world, but I can't do that as I wasn't born in Great Yarmouth."

Mr Cozens, originally from Barningham near Thetford, is employed as the Labour Party's secretary and director of political services.

Despite not being from the town, Mr Cozens said he had an affection for Yarmouth, having spent family holidays and day trips there.

According to his website, Mr Cozens' will prioritise more jobs, delivering investment, cracking down on crime, tackling the cost of living and defeating Tory incumbent MP Brandon Lewis.

Applications to be Labour's next candidate for Great Yarmouth close on Thursday, July 6.

The next general election is yet to be announced, but it will be before January 29, 2025.
