A drunk man attacked his girlfriend and threatened to kill her after she beat him at pool in a Norfolk pub, a court has heard.

Lee Fiddes, 31, had been out with his partner at the Prince Regent in Great Yarmouth where he lost the pool contest and got annoyed with her.

Norwich Crown Court heard Fiddes went back to the Belvedere guest house in the town where he was staying, having told her "not to go back to the hotel".

Chris Youell, prosecuting, said the victim, who had also been drinking, did go back after which a 999 call was made by others in the hotel to reports of a "female screaming".

He said one of the witnesses described Fiddes saying "You're a slag, I'm going to kill you".

Mr Youell said police could still hear the screaming when they arrived and found the victim lying beside a window with "obvious injuries" to her head.

Mr Youell said the victim had suffered bruising to her head and had a "collection of injuries all over her body" as well as a cut to her chin.

Fiddes, of Bishop Bridge House, Norwich, appeared at court on Wednesday (July 5) having been convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH) following the attack on January 29 this year.

Recorder Douglas Edwards sentenced Fiddes to 18 months imprisonment, suspended for 20 months and ordered him to undertake up to 30 days Rehabilitation Activity Requirement (RAR).

As part of his sentence Fiddes was also ordered to take part in a 'building better relationships' programme, a mental health treatment programme for up to 12 months and an alcohol treatment programme, also for 12 months.

Oliver Haswell, mitigating, said both Fiddes and the victim were intoxicated at the time.

He said Fiddes had told the victim "don't follow me" and although he did not condone what happened insisted the defendant had been "trying to put distance between the parties".

Mr Haswell said alcohol was "the root cause of his offending but has never been addressed".
