Investigations are currently under way at a busy road in a coastal town that has been plagued by sinkholes.

Baker Street in Gorleston is closed with engineers working through the weekend at the site.

It follows the emergence of a sinkhole last Wednesday (July 4) which forced a section of the road to be cordoned off.

The current closure is causing congestion to build in the area, with drivers facing traffic issues in Lowestoft Road and the High Street, according to the AA traffic map.

The busy road, which links Riverside Road with Lowestoft Road, has been plagued with collapses for a number of years.

A lorry got its wheels stuck in a sinkhole two to three metres deep in April, prompting an investigation by Anglian Water.

It was later repaired but just four months later a section of the road collapsed again.

A Norfolk County Council spokesman said investigations are still ongoing and it is not known how long the road will have to be closed.
